The Chess Set comes sealed in cellophane, so we were unable to examine it upon receipt. Our grandchildren are fans of Sam Ita's pop-up books and we assumed that this Chess Set was of similar quality. Since we ordered it prior to November 1, 2013, we are unable to return it under Amazon policy.

Beautifully designed, the folded heavy paper pieces are designed to pop-up smoothly, each with a felt base, to make a lovely, lightweight, surprisingly sturdy chess set. It is regulation size, a pleasure to use, and so elegant, I decided to give it as a wedding gift. Everyone loves it.
As my nine year old grandson noted when we attempted to assemble the chess pieces, "…this is very disappointing"! Many of the pieces do not stay upright, particularly the castles, once they are "popped-up." The felt magnets are not strong enough to hold the base open and the piece upright.
