What a uniquely beautiful title for a book. I was intrigued from the title alone. Devan Scott's heart was broken by her girlfriend who said she had found "the one". Darn, Devan thought she was the one. So Devan packs up her bags and moves back home, but not really home...just back to her home state of WA. There she finds a great little place and becomes inthralled in the owner domestic situation. She also meets a lot of gay and lesbians...it seems the whole town might be gay. Devan has dates with Kelly and Lori, and Alex. She like them all, but in different ways. When ones are players and which ones aren't, but you'll take an unexpected trip to Hawaii to find "the one". Devan Scott has been living and teaching in Austin, Texas. When she returns from a teacher's conference, her lover of five years, Steph, informs her that she, Steph, has found 'The One', and is leaving her. While Devan was gone Steph has moved most of her belongings out of their home. The next day, Devan is told by her principal that the funding for her position has been withdrawn. Out of a job, and out of a lover, Devan decides to return to her home state of Washington. She is able to get a teaching job in Vancouver, Washington, and rents a wonderful apartment. The apartment is above a garage, next to her landlady's house. Devan finds out that her landlady was married to an abusive man and has an restraining order against him.
Devan likes Vancouver, and finds a welcoming gay community, with women who are interested in dating her. Now, comes the problem can she learn to trust again?
It's been a long time and many books gone by since I haven't enjoyed a story so much as this one.
I did enjoy this book but why some authors feel the need to throw in a male who wreaks havoc and mayhem is beyond me! This book is filled with other wonderful characters which I really enjoyed! Authors of lesbian fiction do me a favor and dispense with menacing males even IF there is a happy ending. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only reader of lesbian romance books who feels this way.
